Catrice Prince Claxton

Catrice Jenell Prince Claxton was born and raised in East Palo Alto, California which is located in the bay area. She was raised by her grandparents, Roger and Dolores Prince. As a youth Catrice spent quite a bit of time volunteering at the rehabilitation center convalescent hospital where her grandmother Dolores worked for many years. This is where she developed her love for seniors and serving. She was also quite the sports athlete and excelled in numerous sports her favorite being basketball and tennis.

Catrice attended Menlo Atherton High School located in Menlo Atherton, California from 1990 to 1992 as a freshman and sophomore. During her time at Menlo Atherton high school, she played varsity basketball and varsity tennis. She was a part of a championship team that won state titles in California and in Canada.

At the age of 15 years old, Catrice moved with her grandparents and extended family to Ceres, California in March 1992 where she attended Ceres High School. Catrice continued as a student athlete at Ceres High School and graduated as Senior Class Vice President in 1994.

After graduation, Catrice attended Modesto Junior College, where she graduated with a Associates Degree in Business Administration, attended Chapman University, graduating cum laude, receiving her Bachelors Degree in Organizational Leadership, and finished out her educational journey at Brandman University with a Masters in Business Administration.

On October 23, 1999, Catrice married her high school sweetheart Meltron Claxton. Together they have a daughter, two sons and two grandchildren whom they love dearly.

Catrice has worked in numerous fields such as human resources and financial services industry. In 2016 Catrice started the Sweet Potato Pie Company in Modesto California as a seasonal pie company. Her first retail location was opened in 2018 at 2020 Coffee Rd., C4 in Modesto, CA 95355.

January of 2023, Catrice started the Sweet Potato Pie Cares program which leads the community volunteer services that the company participates in throughout the year. The Sweet Potato Pie Company Cares program participates in annual cleanups in Stanislaus, spends time with seniors at senior living facilities, enjoys spending time with Veterans at the Veterans Center, feeds the less fortunate throughout the year, gives to those in needs, as well as donate goods and services to support other nonprofits in the community.

One of Catrice’s passions is hosting, Faithful Fridays with Catrice on KCBP 95.5 FM here in Modesto California. This program is a gospel music inspired show which shares motivational minutes to keep you encouraged throughout the week.

Why did you choose to be a board member of LSC?

I enjoy sharing the skills and knowledge that I have acquired over the years. If there’s a need that I can fulfill, I am more than willing to donate my time and attention to assist in anyway that I can. Love Modesto is about finding needs in our community and serving where we are needed, which goes hand-in-hand with what I desire to do in our community and worldwide.

What do you love most about being on the LSC board?

The board has common goals which aligns with my desired personal and professional goals, which is to serve and give back. I appreciate being a part of a team that is diverse which allows us to bring different perspectives and ideas together. This allows us to increases our success at arriving at solutions, which are beneficial to our big picture. That is being able to reach more individuals and serve our community better.

What do you love most about living in Stanislaus County?

I love the slower pace of life compared to the bay area where I was born and raised in the earlier part of my life. I also love how close we are in either direction, be it the Bay Area or LA. I also love the people that, I have been blessed to meet here that have overtime become an extended part of my family.

In what ways do you participate in the community?
